I was back at Christ School in May for our alumni weekend and induction into the Christ School Athletic Hall of Fame. It was great to see so many familiar faces and have an opportunity to thank all those who made my amazing Christ School experience possible, like our coach David Gaines, former headmaster Paul Krieger, and especially my parents who did their research before me and my brothers arrived in Arden. As a kid I was only thinking about basketball, but my parents made sure that where we ended up was much more than a basketball factory. Unfortunately, I think that’s what you see a lot now in our sport, with kids being identified early as potential pros. People get around them and get in their head and it’s all about “what can the school do for me?” Christ School has done more than I could have ever asked for or imagined — the relationships, the learnings, the community, it’s all very real and it has stayed with me. I still appreciate and benefit from it today.
What made the sports experience at Christ School so special was the great teams that we had. We won three state titles while I was in school. My brothers were a big part of that, as were all of my coaches and teammates — just a good group of guys, it was such a fun experience. You always have to show love to your point guard and mine was Reggie King — so a special shout-out to Reggie who remains a close friend.
My family and I have stayed connected to Christ School and I had a chance to meet the current recipient of the Plumlee family scholarship while I was there. We hope that lots of kids get to have the same kind of experience my brothers and I had in Arden. I’ll remember my time as a Greenie forever.
